Greetings!
Greenfox5 of Berkeley is excited to be on the web! We are an environmental service club at UC Berkeley based on the five environmental tenets of Food, Waste, Products, Greenspace, and Energy. Our mission is to better our school and surrounding community by tackling environmental problems holistically.
Greenfox5 of Berkeley is a club in its infancy, but it already has a phenomenal group of members. We have three projects underway and are excited to move forward with all of them.
In the spirit of Food and Waste...
Currently, one of our founding members, Alanna McDermott, is navigating the world of tenant-landlord relations to learn the specifics of obtaining composting service for apartment dwellers. Her household is serving as the guinea pig for the process; soon she hopes to be able to compile a step-by-step guide for other renters to easily work with their landlords and the city to get composting in their apartments!
Education...
Our largest collaborative effort so far has been our ongoing attempt to create working relationships with local elementary schools to provide free environmental education. We are equipped with an excellent curriculum from our parent organization Greenfox 5 Schools (based in Massachusetts). We plan to start working with a school (or schools) in the beginning of the Spring 2011 semester.
Happy Holidays...
Keep your eyes open for our upcoming green guide to the holidays. Suggestions will be based on the Greenfox 5 and will cover all aspects of the holiday season.
Have a green day!
Grace Vaziri, President of Greenfox5 of Berkeley
